Day 56 - Youth and Resiliency

Synergy's Homeless Youth Campus

Synergy's Homeless Youth Campus is where our city's homeless teenagers are given love and attention, basic hygiene supplies, a bed, food, and guidance.  It has a teen clinic staffed by Children's Mercy Hospital and a dormitory for homeless and at-risk young people.  It's become a hangout for musicians to jam in a room filled with instruments.  A built in dj booth, converted from an old radiology room with soundproof walls, attracts those taking a break from the gym or the art room used for therapy and pleasure.  On the youth campus is where family crisis therapy occurs and where advocates make action plans.  What touched me most was hearing that therapists from Synergy go out late at night and find teens who are living on the streets.  They bring them to the Youth Resiliency Center at the campus and give them options for a better life.  We should all be thanking Robin Winner, Synergy's Executive Director, who has made saving lives her life's purpose.
