Day 54 - Children's TLC

What started in 1947 as a nursery school for children with cerebral palsy, has evolved into Children's TLC or Children's Therapeutic Learning Center.  With Lacy as my tour guide, I was able to peek into the classrooms to see children learning in the most innovative educational settings. There were children with all kinds of disabilities, having their special needs met by teachers and therapists of the highest caliber of education and experience.  What was so interesting was the fact that staff members' children and other children from the community were mainstreamed into the preschool program.  These kids had no disabilities and their parents felt that exposing them to special needs kids would encourage empathy, and so much more.  I came to sort items for the holiday shop, an annual event when Children's TLC families pick up clothes and toys donated by generous supporters in the community.
