Day 159 - World Autism Day

On December 18, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 62/139 which declares April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) in perpetuity.  This UN resolution is one of only three official disease-specific United Nations Days.  Light It Up Blue helped raise awareness and funds for autism as more than 1000 buildings around the world were lit up blue on April 1st and 2nd.  To help children with autism spectrum disorders in the Kansas City area, I made a donation to Camp Encourage.  At the camp, kids between the ages of 8 and 18 are immersed in a nurturing overnight environment that allows them to be independent, with supervision.  Three days of camp costs $1500/child but with fundraising and grants the cost can be reduced to around $800/child.  Camp Encourage is proud to be included in the Camps for Kids campaign, especially since all donations made from April 1 to July 31, will be doubled.
